CATL’s Innovation for Improved Perovskite Thermal Stability
We observed that in the perovskite solar cells, disintegration over time is a major challenge, due to contact with light, heat, moisture and oxygen and is further accelerated by the release of the A-site cation gases. A common solution available is the encapsulation of the perovksite layer but it does not provide thermal stability.
In a recent research by CATL, we noticed perovskite solar cell is encapsulated within a blend of inert gas and methylamine gas, offering a viable alternative to enhance overall thermal stability. It also allows for the adjustment of gas ratios to variably impact both efficiency and stability. Intriguingly, when the volume ratio of argon to methylamine shifted from 9:1 to 5:5, stability markedly improved without any significant compromise to device efficiency.
