A in PFA can now be Adios!
Since most cosmetic companies are trying to scratch PFAs off their ingredients list, I wanted to share an alternative that my team found during research- BioEstolide
It’s a patented technology from Biosynthetic Technologies, made from organic fatty acids in Estolide oils.
Not only is it biodegradable, but it also offers great skin protection and moisturization, along with cold flow properties.
And its goodness isn’t limited to skin. When applied to hair, BioEstolide 250-100 imparts shine, moisture and protective properties.
And here’s the crazy part: BioEstolide could be used as a lubricant base in automotive and industrial applications.
Imagine a 3-in-1 product for skin, hair and car care 🙂 Seems like an ideal product for low maintenance folks.
Their research is also backed by HG Ventures who invested $7.5M in the company for R&D in developing sustainable products.
BioEstolide has the potential to be a great alternative because it’s easier and cheaper to make from renewable feedstocks, unlike PFAs which need complex chemical processes.
And it’s a sustainable alternative to silicone that is already commercially available for companies looking to ditch PFAs.
Alternatives like BioEstolide can help companies comply with evolving regulations and reduce potential legal risks associated with PFAs since they have come under tighter regulation due to environmental and health concerns.
There are more companies like Biosynthetic technologies who are researching sustainable alternatives to PFAs. Find their research and more PFA alternatives here- https://www.greyb.com/blog/pfa-alternatives-in-cosmetics/
